Thank you for purchasing, finding, or otherwise acquiring my zine, David! This is the 4th in an ongoing series of these zines. It’s an absolute thrill to low-key publish in this way!
This is a story about a childhood friend turned adulthood friend that I first told live at Judson Memorial Church at my regular show there. This story means so much to me, as did David. I hope you enjoy it.
The zine you are holding in your hand was designed by luke kurtis, a dear friend and frequent collaborator. Most notably he inspired and designed my books The Animal Book and Tentative Armor, and my previous zines, Glorious, About a Bed, and Tigger. So much of my work now is about these publications, and it was luke who inspired me in this way. The first David zines were hand folded and bound with needle and thread by me in a limited edition of 40. Each one was signed, numbered, and made available to my Patreon community for a limited time. It’s a really beautiful feeling to create these objects by hand and send them out into the world to people who so fully believe in my work.
The track started out to be a mash-up/reworking/re-imagining of the song “Being Boring.” I hacked at it for a long time and then decided to just to sing the dang song as I had when I premiered this story back in June 2019. I decided to just plug in a mic and get to it, letting it be however it came out in just a couple of takes. It’s raw, messy, and kinda perfect. One day, I’d love to rework this song and release it with a proper studio recording.
Thanks for checking this out and for taking the time to find this page. You can download the track and the zine in various formats using the links below.
